Photography isn't just a hobby; it's my attempt at sanity! It's a diversion in a life with much responsibility, and also a way of looking at the world. Over the years, thinking photographically has made me more observant.

So, I keep a camera with me, wherever I go. If I'm dressed up, I'll probably have a point-and-shoot in the pocket of my sport coat. You know, the camera I keep in the office. When I'm driving, walking around town, or exploring a park, I take my DSLR, usually with a telephoto lens.

I shoot what I'm in the mood to shoot. Macros, nature, family, or things that make me think. My camera and I like to explore cemeteries. And, I use as little editing as possible. Not that I'm against Photoshopping; I just keep things simple for myself.

Photography also helps me with sanity because it introduces me to folks on Deviant Art and Flickr. Since I began posting photos, I've encountered many people, and enjoyed friendships that I value.

Thanks for stopping by. Some of the items in my gallery are actually attempts at quality photography. Others simply chronicle my life. Either way, I'm glad our paths have crossed.

One Season Long

1 min read
Eraser dust
white and sparkling
drifts in hard shivers
no knowledge of green leaf or frog
no memory of cicada music
or awareness of perspiration beads.
Just ooooh,
playing with bare branches.
I have no quarrel with winter.

Eruptions that return stolen color
to a world frustrated with gray and white
heartbeats of creatures long buried
"Life finds a way."
copious runoff
Spring is amazing.

Green asserts and prevails!
Insects collaborate
jam and concert
supported by jagged strobe and timpani
inviting and affirming
summer is the Standard
by which all time is measured.

Only autumn disappoints me.
jaundiced, losing grip
cooling colding looting cruel
darkness invades
life hides.

Sadness lasts one season.

The Mobile Site

Does anyone else have trouble with the DA mobile site?  I find it to be very slow.  And, each time a page comes up, a message tells me that there's something wrong with the page; please select a different link.

That's never happened to me, other than on DA.

A Brief Hiatus

1 min read
Well, the moving truck rolls in tomorrow!  I'll have my cell phone, and will be able to make brief comments, but I won't have wifi access for a few days, and I find the DA mobile site to be tedious, at best.  Matter of fact, it's the only site in which my phone tells me that something is wrong with the web site; please try another link!

Anyway, I'll be pretty scarce, probably for a week.  See you on the other side!

Llamas

1 min read
I like llamas and alpacas; they're cool.  Their fur is also amazing!

But, I'm still not grabbing onto this llama-giving custom on DA.  Yesterday, I received four more llamas from total strangers, and that bumped me up to the level of super-llama!  I get that it's a good thing, but what does it symbolize?  Am I trying to look too deeply into it?

How should I respond to those people?
