Description
My wife and I were taking a walk when we stumbled upon this sculpture of a man in a robe, holding a bowl, with a lamb at his feet. I'm not Roman Catholic, but I'm pretty sure it's Francis of Assisi, who lived in the Thirteenth Century.
Much amazing fact, and much fanciful mythology, surrounds Francis. Why someone chose to place the statue in this hollow tree is anyone's guess.

Very interesting, this must be a very special place for someone. Here in Austria but also in Southern Germany there is a tradition to put up wayside crosses or little shrines in places where something significant (good or bad) happened or to otherwise mark e.g. points for orientation/location along roads. This might be something similar.
